Cracking media coverage for a retirement from work story
The brief was to get some media coverage for an employee retiring after 45 years.
Andy Hirst from AH! PR was commissioned to write the story about Ian Nunn who retired just before Christmas from Syngenta, a Huddersfield company which makes products that help farmers tackle weeds, pests and diseases in plants.
Andy said: “I went down to interview Ian face-to-face as you always get a better interview and more information that way. It’s way more productive than interviewing someone over the phone or even via Zoom or Teams.
“Ian was apprenticeship manager and during the conversation I quickly grasped that the scheme he had set up with colleagues was one of the most pioneering in the country. By focusing on that and Ian talking about why apprenticeships are so important in these days when recruitment is often difficult, it gave the story a strong news line that was liked by both the Yorkshire Post and the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.
“Both gave the story full coverage with hardly a word changed from the news release sent in.”
